CafeF: The only Vietnamese enterprise making semiconductor wafers for chip manufacturers: Electing "former senior manager" of IBM as Chairman

Vietnam Wafer Joint Stock Company has just successfully organized its second General Shareholders Meeting of for the fiscal year 2024. At this meeting, the shareholders have approved the election of new members of the Board of Directors and re-elected current members. In which, Mr. Thomas George Forsberg - former Global Purchasing Manager of IBM - officially elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors.


Mr. Thomas George Forsberg has more than 35 years of experience in formulating and executing strategies to secure IBM's supply of 200 and 300-mm silicon wafers for use in the Group's semiconductor fabrication processes.

Vietnam Wafer is the only company in Vietnam that is supplying semiconductor wafers to chip and solar panel manufacturers in the region.


 

Wafers – or silicon wafers – are the core physical component in the production of semiconductor chips. They act as containers for the elements that make up the finished chip. Wafer manufacturing (also known as wafer processing) is the first step in the chip manufacturing process.

 

Mr. Chau Hoang Long, CEO of Vietnam Wafer, cited data from Boston Consulting Group Vietnam (BCG) stating that the global semiconductor market will grow by double digits in the coming years to reach 1,000 billion USD by 2030.

In addition to the representative office in Hanoi, a factory in Quang Binh and an R&D center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Wafer has a direct presence in 4 international markets including Japan, Korea, the United States, and Vietnam through a system of subsidiaries and representative offices.

Since the beginning of the year, the Company has established a subsidiary in Japan (Vietnam Wafer Japan), and in parallel, established representative offices in the United States (Virginia) and Korea (Incheon).


The General Shareholders Meeting has also approved increasing the number of Board members from seven to nine and clearly defining the Board structure with the addition of two independent board members.
